Fairfield brought its baseball and softball teams to Fort Madison Thursday for Southeast Conference action and left with a pair of victories.
The Fairfield softball team team met the Bloodhounds at the Baxter Sports Complex and came away with a 13-4 win.
The Trojans baseball team (6-3) eked out a 2-1 victory over Fort Madison at the high school.
Luke Hellige was the hard luck loser for Fort Madison. He recorded all but the final out and gave up just two hits, but three walks and two earned runs. He fanned six.
One of those two hits was a home run by Fairfield’s Luke Konczal to lead off the top of the fourth inning.
The other run was the result of a hit batter, a walk, a sacrifice and a wild pitch in the fifth inning.
The Bloodhounds had six hits, two by Tateum Schelich.
FMHS scored a run in the sixth inning after a hit batter, a walk and a double by Aiden Mitchell.
The Bloodhounds have a doubleheader at Muscatine Friday and a date at Central Lee for 10 a.m. Saturday.
BASEBALL
FIELD OF DREAMS
The Bloodhounds (2-8) lost to Van Buren County (3-5) Wednesday at the Field of Dreams movie site in Dyersville.
Owen Huffman and Hellige had two hits apiece with Huffman hitting a double. Hellige drove in a run. Schelich had the other hit.
Huffman took the loss.
SOFTBALL
FAIRFIELD 13, FORT MADISON 4
Fort Madison’s softball team gave up two runs in the first inning, another in the fourth then 10 in a fateful sixth inning.
The Trojans had 15 hits that included two doubles and a home run.
The Bloodhounds scored once in the third inning and tried to rally with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
The Bloodhounds managed just five hits and committed three errors. Only four of Fairfield’s runs were earned.
