Pirates Make Unfortunate Andrew McCutchen Announcement Before Phillies Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Considering that he turns 39 in October, we feel comfortable suggesting that Philadelphia Phillies fans are running out of chances to watch old friend Andrew McCutchen.

Those making the in-state trek to PNC Park won’t see much of McCutchen on Friday night. McCutchen, who is typically the Pirates’ designated hitter, will come off the bench; Pirates interim manager Don Kelly instead gave Bryan Reynolds the nod at DH.
McCutchen went hitless with six strikeouts in 11 at-bats against the Houston Astros earlier this week. However, the five-time All-Star has quietly put together a solid season for the lowly Pirates, hitting .249 with five home runs, 19 RBIs and a .726 OPS through 55 games.
McCutchen has already tallied 0.5 bWAR, putting him well in position to top last year’s 0.8.

It remains unclear if the Pirates will trade McCutchen ahead of the July 31 deadline. McCutchen has been vocal in wanting to stay with the Pirates, the team that drafted him No. 11 in 2005 and watched him become an MVP.

Pittsburgh entered Friday at 23-40 and 12 games behind in the wild-card race. Philadelphia (37-25) holds the NL’s top wild-card spot ahead of the San Diego Padres (35-26) and San Francisco Giants (35-28).
