Dodgers Make Unfortunate Tony Gonsolin Announcement Before Cardinals Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
After previously battling a back injury, Los Angeles Dodgers veteran Tony Gonsolin heard three of the worst possible words that any pitcher wants to hear.

Right elbow discomfort.
Any report involving an elbow is never good news for a pitcher, and it landed Gonsolin on the 15-day injured list Saturday afternoon. The move comes three days after Gonsolin allowed three runs (two earned) in a 6-1 loss to the New York Mets on Wednesday.
The Dodgers did not immediately announce who would replace Gonsolin in the rotation. However, the Dodgers activated relievers Michael Kopech (shoulder) and Kirby Yates (hamstring) ahead of their afternoon showdown with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Gonsolin, who missed the season’s first month with a back ailment, is 3-2 with a 5.00 ERA and 38-18 K-BB ratio over 36 innings. Unfortunately for the 31-year-old, he and the Dodgers know elbow issues all too well; he missed the end of 2023 and all of last year following Tommy John surgery.

Gonsolin’s injury is the latest blow to an already-decimated Dodgers pitching rotation. Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow are on the 60-day IL with shoulder injuries. Roki Sasaki is also recovering from a shoulder injury, although he’s only on the 15-day injured list.

Clayton Kershaw has only managed 15 2 / 3 innings in four starts, and Dustin May’s 4.09 ERA in 11 starts isn’t especially impressive. At least Yoshinobu Yamamoto owns a 2.39 ERA and 1.8 bWAR in his 67 2/3 innings.
We’ll see if the Dodgers look to the trade market in the coming weeks. New York Yankees veteran Marcus Stroman certainly makes sense, especially given his insistence that he wants to start. However, Stroman is still on the IL with a left knee injury.
The inconsistent Dodgers are 38-26 and hold a one-game lead over the San Diego Padres in the NL West.
