FSU baseball’s Link Jarrett talks ejection, Seminoles comeback regional title win

Jamie Arnold has developed into not only the staff ace for Florida State baseball, but also one of the best pitchers in all of college baseball.

Arnold tossed another gem with a season-high 13 strikeouts on 119 pitches in the No. 8 Seminoles’ 10-3 win over Mississippi State in the Tallahassee Regional on May 31 at Dick Howser Stadium. The Golden-Spikes finalist and All-ACC first team member posted an 8-2 record with a 3.12 ERA in 78 innings pitched with 110 strikeouts and 26 walks in 14 starts.

The left-handed star will need to have another strong start for FSU in the Corvallis Super Regional against No. 8 Oregon State. The best-of-three-game super regional series begins at 7 p.m. ET at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field in Corvallis, Oregon.

Here’s what you need to know about Arnold’s stats this season at Florida State and more:

Jamie Arnold MLB draft projections

Here’s a look at 2025 MLB draft projections for Arnold, who is heavily expected to be a top 10 pick:

Gabe Lacques, USA TODAY: First round, pick No. 2 to Los Angeles Angels

“The Angels’ ever-dire need for pitching and GM Perry Minasian’s penchant for quick-to-the-majors guys intersects with Arnold, a 6-foot-1 lefty who has dominated ACC competition with a WHIP of less than 1.00 and just three homers allowed in 55 innings. Not your prototypical top five power pitcher, but a lefty who can pitch off his fastball and has the profile of a rotation anchor.”

Kiley McDaniel, ESPN: First round, pick No. 6 to the Pittsburgh Pirates:

“The Pirates have been tied to Arquette (not available in this scenario), any of the three college lefties (just Arnold in this scenario), and whichever of the prep shortstops get here (Carlson and Parker in this scenario). I think Arnold’s solid chance to be the best pitcher in this class wins out.”

Jim Callis, MLB.com: First round, pick No. 4 to the Colorado Rockies:

“The son of former Rockies All-Star Matt Holliday, Ethan won’t get past this choice. It’s unclear what the Rockies will do otherwise, as the club with the worst record in baseball could look for more immediate help with one of the top four college pitchers or Arquette, take the most talented player in the Draft (Hernandez) or grab the high schooler with the highest floor (Willits).”

Why Jamie Arnold could be the No. 1 overall pick

The Athletic’s Keith Law wrote about Arnold as a potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 MLB draft:

“Arnold comes from a very low slot, nearly sidearm, that will earn obvious comparisons to Chris Sale, but Arnold’s delivery might be easier than Sale’s, and Arnold’s pitch mix is very different. On Saturday, Arnold was 92-95, leaning more on the four-seamer, with very good ride on the pitch and huge deception from how well he hides his arm, a very low release point, and a slight cutoff in his landing. His slider was plus at 82-86 with good tilt to it and a lot of horizontal movement from the low slot, and his changeup wasn’t far behind, 85-87 with excellent arm speed and sudden tumble. He threw all three pitches for strikes, even with a tight zone from the umpire. He struck out nine and walked just two, the first of which was a very close call.”
