The New York Mets announce that they have signed former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Julian Merryweather to a minor league deal.

The Chicago Cubs announced last week that they decided to DFA Merryweather after a rough start to the season which resulted in him being released and once again becoming a free agent.

The Cubs have DFA’d Julian Merryweather.

The Mets announced yesterday that they have signed Merryweather to a minor league deal as he will start in Triple-A and hopefully pitch his way back into the majors.

Merryweather appeared in 18.2 innings this season, totaling a 5.79 ERA with 15 Ks.

In 2025, Merryweather pitched 18.2 innings with the Cubs before being DFA’d in which he had a 5.79 ERA including 15 strikeouts and a 1.82 WHIP in a total of 21 games.

The Mets are hoping they can get Merryweather back into the pitcher he was in 2023 where he had his best season finishing with a 3.38 ERA in 72 innings pitched to go along with 98 strikeouts.

Hopefully the former Blue Jays can find a way back into the MLB with the Mets.
