I have been reading different reports that the young Baltimore Orioles players are upset with the team’s front office and ownership about the lack of contract extensions. Please give me a break (“It’s contract extension season across MLB. Just not for the Orioles.” April 3).
The two best players on the team, Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson, are having dismal seasons not worthy of any long contract extensions. Prior to the little hot streak that Rutschman has had in recent days, his average was a pathetic .203.
Henderson had a great year in 2024, but this season has been average at best. His On-Base Plus Slugging (OPS) stinks and he strikes out nearly one out of three opportunities at the plate. Get serious. These two players are supposed to be the core of this team but they are the main reason for this atrocious season.
You would have to be crazy to give out huge contract extensions to players who have only shown glimpses of consistency. Henderson is a huge disappointment no matter what some Orioles fans may want to believe.
