After their 13-5 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, the New York Mets are winners of three straight games and eight of their last 10. Despite going through a bit of a rocky patch in May, the Mets are 42-24 and own the best record in the NL. Furthermore, only the 43-24 Detroit Tigers have a better record than they do in the MLB.

The Mets will head back home and take on the Washington Nationals for a three-game series beginning on Tuesday. Both teams split their four-game series from April 25-28.
Ahead of Tuesday’s game, New York made a roster move that could impact their upcoming series.

As the Mets look to build off their momentum and continue their season strong, they will aim to put together the best team possible. This includes making some changes to the roster, which they did on Monday.
According to the Mets’ official X account, the team has selected RHP Justin Garza to the major league roster. In a corresponding move, they optioned LHP Brandon Waddell to Triple-A Syracuse.
New York acquired Garza from the San Francisco Giants on June 7 for cash considerations. The 31-year-old last appeared in the majors for the Boston Red Sox in 2023. In 18.1 innings that season, Garza had a 7.36 ERA and a 0-2 record. Additionally, he recorded a 1.85 WHIP and had a 1.42 SO/BB ratio.

Garza’s first opportunity to pitch for the Mets will be on Tuesday when they begin their series against Washington.
