He is staying in the Lone Star State, headed to Temple, Texas where the Leopards reside.

Urteaga, who pitches and plays infield for the Eagles, helped lead his team to the state tournament two seasons ago and more recently another playoff birth.

He credits his coaches and teammates for shaping who he is today.

“That’s part of the Canyon Eagle program is we don’t run our mouths much and we just let the we let the skill and the playing do the talk and when I get down there I’m not gonna change who I’ve been… I’m just gonna let the hard work play out for me and let it keep getting me places,” Urteaga says.

Urteaga also says that there are lots of similarities in the work ethic between Canyon and Temple, that ultimately helped him make his decision.

“If [Temple College] is like what I’ve been hearing from guys, I don’t think there’s gonna be too much of a change,” Urteaga says. “We want to win here at Canyon and that’s kind of what we do, we work our butts off to win and to be the best possible players that we can be… that’s really kind of what it comes down to.”

Urteaga joins a Leopards team who finished 22-30 overall last season, 12-20 in conference play.
