Cubs Predicted to Cut Ties With Top Prospect at MLB Trade Deadline originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Chicago Cubs are one of the best teams in baseball and have sat atop the NL standings for much of this season. That means, like for many teams, the trade deadline will likely be about acquiring established MLB talent to fill areas of need.

According to Aldo Soto at Sports Mockery, Chicago needs pitching help in the bullpen and starting lineup. Team President Jed Hoyer has not been shy about dealing prospects for guys like Kyle Tucker and Michael Busch.
So far, both of those moves have worked out well for the Cubs.
“You’re kind of just counting down the days before you get that notification from Jeff Passan that involves the Cubs.” Soto wrote.
In a mailbag by Cubs beat reporter Sahadev Sharma, Sharma said that none of Chicago’s minor league players are untouchable.
The only players will most likely not get moved? One’s already in the majors.

“If you’re on the major league roster, they’re likely not going to move you unless it’s some insane deal that we can’t wrap our heads around right now,” Sharma said on the North Side Territory podcast.

That means that any of your favorite prospects could be on the trading block.
MLB.com lists Cade Horton as the 32nd overall prospect in baseball, but he has been playing in the majors quite a bit this season. But someone like Moises Ballesteros, who is ranked 61st overall, could be on the move.
“They need to make a big move and potentially a few more to take the 2025 Cubs to the next level. We know it. Jed Hoyer knows it and I’m sure those prospects at Triple-A have it in the back of their mind, too,” Soto said.
Ballesteros is hitting a blistering .335 AVG at Triple-A this season, slugging almost .500 in what has been his best season in the minor leagues to date. Right now, he is the 57th-ranked prospect, playing both first base and catching.

Soto also mentioned Jefferson Rojas, Owen Caissie, Kevin Alcantara, and others as possible players who could be dealt.
