Oops, she did it again.
Jada Patton did again.
She saved the day for Lawrence County’s season.
She delivered a two run homer in the 15th Region Tournament and then followed with the game-winning RBI single.
In the KHSAA Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Softball State Tournament presented by UK HealthCare, the Lady Bulldogs trailed Taylor County 2-0 going into the top of the seventh with a spot in the state semifinals on the line.
Patton stepped to the plate with two on and one out, she delivered a three-run homer to left field to power Lawrence County to a 3-2 lead.
That score held in the bottom of the seventh as Lawrence County pulled off a 3-2 win over Taylor County to advance to the state semifinals against Assumption.
Besides Patton’s huge homer, Taylor Blevins picked up the win in the pitcher’s circle. She went all seven innings and gave up two runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out five batters.
In the opening round of the state tournament Lawrence County knocked off Marshall County 5-4.
Lawrence County got going in the top of the second. Gracie Preece hit a leadoff single. Brinley Baisden followed with a walk. Aleaha Gillispie reached on an error to load the bases.Â
With one out and the bases loaded, Ella Smith was hit-by-a-pitch to drive in the first run of the game.Â
With the bases loaded and two outs, Patton stepped to the plate and delivered a three RBI double to give the Lady Bulldogs a 4-0 lead.Â
Marshall County got a run back in the bottom of the fourth and the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 4-2.
The Lady Bulldogs held the 4-2 lead going after six innings of play.
In the top of the seventh, Preece gave Lawrence County an insurance run as she delivered with an RBI double to push the lead to 5-0.
That insurance run paid off big time because Marshall County scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 5-4.
With the game-tying run on base, Lawrence County got ground out for the third out of the seventh to end the game and advance.
Blevins picked up the win in the opener by tossing all seven innings of work. She gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits and three walks, while striking out three batters.
Besides Lawrence County and Assumption, the other semifinal game Scott County vs. Henderson County. Times for both games haven’t been announced yet, but the games are both slated to take place Friday at University of Kentucky’s John Cropp Stadium in Lexington.
