The New York Mets announced a pair of roster moves on Tuesday, including placing catcher Francisco Alvarez on the paternity list.

To replace him, the Mets recalled catcher Hayden Senger from Triple-A Syracuse, who is expected to serve in a backup role until Alvarez returns.
Senger, a 24th-round pick by the Mets in the 2018 MLB Draft, made the Mets Opening Day roster this year after Alvarez suffered a fractured hamate bone in his left hand during Spring training.
The former Whole Foods employee made his major league debut on March 27 at Houston. In 13 games with the big league club in March and April, Senger slashed .179/.207/.214 with one extra-base hit.

Alvarez, who will be out one to three days on leave, has been on fire of late, slashing .286/.310/.429 with one home run and three RBIs over his last seven games. In 29 games this season, he’s hitting .255 with two home runs and 10 RBIs.

Of the team’s 66 games played, Luis Torrens has started 29 behind the plate, Alvarez 27, and Senger 10.
Additionally, the Mets announced the signing of veteran outfielder Travis Jankowski to minor league deal. The 33-year old played for the Mets for a brief time in 2022, hitting .167 in 43 games.
Across 11 seasons with eight different Major League teams, Jankowski has hit .236 with 11 home runs, 98 RBIs and 104 stolen bases. He last played for the Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago White Sox this season.
