SAN ANTONIO — In a surprising turn of events, UTSA’s head baseball coach Pat Hallmark is now a free agent, despite an announcement last year that his contract was extended through 2026. Both Hallmark and the university confirmed the development, raising questions about the situation.

Hallmark, who has been instrumental in elevating the Roadrunners’ baseball program, expressed his desire to remain in San Antonio. “My contract is up. I currently do not have a contract but am in talks with UTSA. I want to stay in San Antonio but I would like more support invested in the baseball program as well,” Hallmark said.

Under Hallmark’s leadership, the Roadrunners achieved a record-setting 47 wins and secured their first Super Regional appearance. The team also claimed a regional championship in Austin, defeating the second-ranked Texas Longhorns three times this year.

UTSA Athletic Director Lisa Campos praised Hallmark’s contributions. “Pat Hallmark has done an incredible job as our head baseball coach leading us to new heights and building a championship-level program,” Campos said. “We are currently engaged in discussions about extending his agreement and look forward to him being the head coach of the Roadrunners for a long time.”

Despite the ongoing discussions, questions remain about why Hallmark’s contract expired when it was initially set to run through 2026. The situation has left Hallmark potentially in high demand as a free agent.

News 4 has filed an open records request for the contract details and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
