MLB Makes Historic Andrew McCutchen Announcement on Wednesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Throughout his 17-year career, outfielder Andrew McCutchen has proven to be a special player, earning five All-Star appearances, four Silver Slugger awards, one Gold Glove and the 2013 National League MVP award.

Of course, he is mostly known for his two stints with the Pittsburgh Pirates, spanning from 2009 to 2017 and 2023 to 2025, where he has established himself as one of the most well-known players in franchise history.

Now, after all these years, he continues to etch himself into the team’s history, and during the Pirates’ game against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday, he hit his 241st home run with Pittsburgh and 325th in his career.

That’s a lot for anyone to reach with one team and the MLB commemorated it with its own social media post, while also revealing he passed the legendary Roberto Clemente (240) for the third-most in franchise history.

Clemente, who spent all 18 years of his career with the Pirates, made the All-Star Game 15 times while earning 12 Gold Gloves and sits in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. He is one of the most decorated players in MLB history.

It will remain to be seen if McCutchen has enough left in the tank to continue to rise up the board, as he still sits behind Ralph Kiner (1946 to 1953) at 301 and Willie Stargell (1962 to 1982) at 475.

That could certainly seem like a difficult task, considering McCutchen is 38 years old and is set to become a free agent when the season concludes.

Either way, though, it’s a fun bright spot in what has otherwise been a disappointing season for the Pirates, as they sported a 27-41 record going into their Wednesday matchup, putting them in last place in the NL Central.
