The Los Angeles Dodgers’ lead in the National League West Division is down to a half game.
San Diego pounded former Righetti High School standout Matt Sauer, and the Padres routed the Dodgers 11-1 at Los Angeles Tuesday night. Sauer (1-1) was the second Dodgers pitcher Tuesday night, and he took the loss. The Padres racked up nine runs on 13 hits in Sauer’s 4.1 innings pitched, including a Manny Machado solo home run in the third inning.
San Francisco beat Colorado 6-5 Tuesday night to close within a half game of the Dodgers. The third-place Padres are a game back.
The Los Angeles Angels beat the Athletics 2-1 in Anaheim on a Nolan Schanuel walk-off single in the 10th inning. Reid Detmers (1-1) pitched a 1-2-3 top of the 10th and got the win.
At press time, the Padres-Dodgers and Athletics-Angels series were to conclude Wednesday. The Dodgers, Padres and Angels are all off Thursday.Â
