LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The Athletics have scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate starting construction of a new Las Vegas baseball stadium.

The ceremonial event, planned for Monday, June 23, would mark a milestone for the stadium, which team executives say will be ready in time for the 2028 Major League Baseball season.

Pegged at costing $1.75 billion, the ballpark will be built at the southeast corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue, the site of the former Tropicana casino hotel.

State lawmakers in 2023 approved spending up to $380 million in public money for construction costs, paid through county bonds and tax credits. The A’s will be responsible for the remainder of that price tag.

The A’s will play at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, California, through 2027.
