Scott County didn’t change their preparation this week for defending state champion Henderson County in the state semifinals, head coach Mike Wagoner said.

“We’re just keeping it normal, doing our normal practicing,” Wagoner said. “Obviously, I’m doing some homework, but we are trying to keep the normalcy of it for us this week building up to Friday.”

The Cardinals take on Henderson County at 10 a.m. today at John Cropp stadium at the University of Kentucky in the Clark’s Pump ‘N’ Shop state tournament semifinal.

Henderson County (33-6) is the defending state champion and defeated North Laurel and Daviess County to reach the semifinal.

“They are good hitters, they’ve got some speed on the bases, and they’ve got several girls that can hit hard and lay down the bunts, so we’ve got to be on our toes,” Wagoner said. “We’ve got to come out, minimize mistakes, and do what we have been doing all season.”

HC has won their past nine games since a 7-4 loss to Greenwood on May 10. One common opponent between the teams is Great Crossing, who both teams defeated 4-0 in the regular season.

Both teams took losses to Assumption in the regular season. Scott County lost 5-1, and Henderson County lost 7-2, both in April.

The winner of the semifinal will play either Assumption (33-6) or Lawrence County (26-7) in the state championship game Saturday.

Due to anticipated weather, the championship game has been pushed up to a noon first pitch.

Scott County and Henderson County have met three times before, once in the state tournament. Henderson County has won all three matchups.

In 2005, the Lady Colonels eeked out a 4-3 win in the state tournament.

HC also came out triumphant in 2021 and 2022, winning 9-1, and 11-1.

SC looks to make  fourth attempt a winner as they vie for their fourth state title.
