The Seattle Mariners announced that they have decided to release former Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Casey Lawrence.
Mariners release former Blue Jays pitcher Casey Lawrence to free agency
Lawrence was recently DFA’d by the Mariners for the fifth time this season last week and the sixth time this season in which he ended up clearing waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A.
After refusing the assignment, the Mariners agreed to release Lawrence back into free agency where he will now look for a new contract outside of Seattle.
Roster move:
Casey Lawrence, RHP, cleared waivers and outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma.
Good for Casey
Casey Lawrence Elects Free Agency
Lawrence has had a very tough 2025 season as he has been DFA’d a total of six times in the span of two and a half months including five times by the same team and once by the Blue Jays.
The worst part of all of this is that Lawrence’s numbers this season are not that bad as he currently has a 4.08 ERA in 17.2 innings pitched and 7 strikeouts between the Mariners and Blue Jays.
When looking at his numbers, Lawrence should be able to find himself another minor league contract with a real chance at getting called up if he performs in Triple-A and hopefully he will be able to stick with this new team until at least the end of the season.
