Houston Astros infielder Isaac Paredes has given his new club a good return on investment after it acquired him from the Chicago Cubs in December. The 26-year-old is slashing .254\/.351\/.468 with a team-high 15 homers and 42 RBI across 67 games after Thursday’s 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox.<\/p>\n

The Astros shipped out star outfielder Kyle Tucker for Paredes, pitcher Hayden Wesneski, and outfielder\/infielder Cam Smith. Wesneski (1-3, 4.50 ERA) made six starts before getting placed on the 60-day IL with an elbow injury, and Smith is slashing .246\/.322\/.363 with three homers and 20 RBI.<\/p>\n

Paredes has been the most productive of the three, but he exited Thursday’s game early with an injury.<\/p>\n

The veteran came up limping after sprinting to first base trying to beat out a grounder in the seventh inning. While he exited the field under his own power, utility man Mauricio Dubon replaced him at third base defensively.<\/p>\n

Following the game, the Astros announced via manager Joe Espada that\u00a0Paredes has a “left hamstring ailment” and the team will know more on Friday (via Chandler Rome of The Athletic<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Paredes played his first 57 MLB games with the Detroit Tigers before spending the next two-and-a-half seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays. The 5-foot-11-inch, 213-pounder slashed .455\/.500\/.545 in four playoff games for the latter club, but it dealt him to the Cubs during the 2024 campaign.<\/p>\n

The Astros are in a transitional time, as long-tenured stars like Tucker, infielder Alex Bregman, and pitcher Justin Verlander are gone, while star outfielder Yordan Alvarez (hand) is slashing just .210\/.306\/.340 with three homers and 18 RBI through 29 games. The 27-year-old is on the 10-day IL.<\/p>\n

Next up for Houston is a three-game home set vs. the Minnesota Twins before hitting the road to face the Athletics and Los Angeles Angels.<\/p>\n
