It took three months, but the Mets\u2019 starting pitching is getting hit up in a series. Over the first two games of this series, and since Clay Holmes<\/a> was taken out of Friday night\u2019s game after five innings, the Tampa Bay Rays have had the Mets\u2019 pitching number. On Saturday, in an 8-4 loss to the Rays, Tylor Megill<\/a> struggled with his command again and made an error. New York\u2019s pitching has allowed 15 runs against Tampa Bay in this series.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Megill\u2019s Inconsistencies Continue\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

In his last start in Colorado against the Rockies, Megill threw 4 no-hit innings, but then in the fifth, he had to battle his way through it. In a game where he looked like he might get to seven innings, he only went five. This outing against the Rays, he looked very good to start. However, in the third and fourth innings, things took a wild turn. In the third inning, he allowed an RBI single to Josh Lowe<\/a>. After the Mets took the lead, Megill had his struggles in the fourth.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He allowed a home run to Junior Caminero<\/a>, hit Jake Magnum, and then an RBI single to Matt Thaiss<\/a>. He then dropped a ball on a bunt by Taylor Walls<\/a> that allowed a run to score. RBI base hits by Brandon Lowe<\/a> and Yandy D\u00edaz<\/a> made it 5-2 Rays. After a walk to Jonathan Aranda<\/a>, a wild pitch by Megill would score another run. Overall, Megill finished his outing by going 3 2\/3 innings, with seven hits, six runs, three earned runs, and two walks. His ERA is now 3.95.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Brandon Nimmo Has Three-Hit Game<\/p>\n

One positive aspect of this game was Brandon Nimmo<\/a>\u2018s continued hitting. Since moving up the lineup, Nimmo has been one of the hottest hitters on the team. On Saturday, Nimmo drove in 2 runs on 3 hits. If Nimmo continues this hot stretch, he could make a good case for his first All-Star Game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Luis Torrens Throws Out Two Runners<\/p>\n

Mets catchers as a whole have been very good at throwing runners out trying to steal a base. Luis Torrens<\/a> added to that by throwing out two base stealers in the 5th inning, and he did it consecutively. He threw out Taylor Walls at third base and then Josh Lowe at second base to close out the inning.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Player of the Game: Brandon Nimmo\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nimmo\u2019s three-hit, two RBI performance was the highlight in Saturday\u2019s game as he continues to be on a roll.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On Deck\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Mets will send Griffin Canning<\/a> on the mound on Father\u2019s Day against Shane Baz<\/a> of the Rays. The game will be televised locally on WPIX and broadcast on Audacy Mets Radio, WHSQ 880AM at 1:40 p.m. EDT.<\/p>\n
