SEATTLE \u2014 Right-handed pitcher Jordan Hicks, who the Red Sox acquired from the Giants in the Rafael Devers trade<\/a> Sunday, is on the 15-day injured list with inflammation in his right big toe but he should be back fairly soon.<\/p>\n

Hicks is eligible to come off the IL on Tuesday. But he will fly to Boston to throw a live BP there in the upcoming days, manager Alex Cora said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen we\u2019ll see where we\u2019re at,\u201d Cora said Monday before Boston\u2019s 2-0 win against the Mariners<\/a> at T-Mobile Park. \u201cI don\u2019t know if a rehab assignment is coming up. But he\u2019s getting close.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old Hicks struggled with the Giants this season, posting a 6.47 ERA in 13 outings (nine starts). <\/p>\n

He had a 3.29 ERA in 65 relief outings in 2023. <\/p>\n

Cora said the Red Sox are not sure yet what role they will use him in.<\/p>\n

Boston also acquired lefty Kyle Harrison in the trade and optioned him to Triple-A Worcester<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe added some pieces that we do believe they\u2019re gonna help us, especially obviously in the pitching department,\u201d Cora said. \u201cThat\u2019s something that we\u2019ve been talking about throughout the offseason and early in the season \u2014 we have to pitch.
