Devin Williams’ first year with the New York Yankees hasn’t exactly gone according to plan. His struggles on the mound have forced manager Aaron Boone to take away his job as the team’s closer.<\/p>\n

It seemed as though his story with the Yankees was about to get even worse when he found himself dealing with a bases-loaded situation in the 10th inning of Wednesday night’s game at Yankee Stadium against the San Diego Padres.<\/p>\n

But the 30-year-old reliever found a way to get out of a jam. Needing just one more out to snuff San Diego’s rally while on a full count and the game tied at 3-3, Williams threw an 84 MPH changeup that punched out Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts<\/p>\n

The two-time National League All-Star couldn’t contain his emotion, as he let out a scream and pumped his fist before walking back to the dugout.<\/p>\n

Williams\u2019 show of emotion and clutch performance got him some extra attention from fans online.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was a close one. Glad he was able to keep it together,\u201d said <\/a>a fan.<\/p>\n

Another one commented<\/a>: \u201cSo hard to watch glad Williams was able to get it done\u203c\ufe0f\u2705\u26be\ufe0f\u201d<\/p>\n

At least one social media user didn\u2019t seem impressed<\/a>: \u201cActing like he won the World Series after striking out an aging Bogaerts. I\u2019m dead \ud83d\udc80\u201d<\/p>\n

The Yankees got the job done in the bottom of the 10th frame with pinch-hitter J.C. Escarra hitting a sacrifice fly that allowed Jasson Dominguez to score the game-winning run in a 4-3 New York victory.<\/p>\n

Williams, meanwhile, earned his first win in a Yankees uniform.<\/p>\n

So far in the 2025 MLB season, Williams has a 9.24 ERA and 1.89 WHIP with four saves in 15 appearances.<\/p>\n
