Pope Leo XIV\u2019s true Chicago sports allegiance revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the world\u2019s biggest questions has been answered after Chicago native Cardinal Robert Prevost was elected the 267th Pope.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Is he a Cubs fan or a White Sox fan? The answer, he\u2019s southside all the way.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pope Leo XIV\u2019s brother, John Prevost, revealed to local Chicago news station WGN TV that the new pontiff was a White Sox fan, despite some rumors that he was a supporter of the Cubbies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The first image of Pope Leo XIV, formerly Robert Francis Prevost, has been released in Rome. As the first American pope, his election marks a historic moment for the Catholic Church, taking place after the conclusion of the 2025 papal conclave. IPA \/ SplashNews.com<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was never ever a Cubs fan, so I don\u2019t know where that came from,\u201d Prevost said. \u201cHe was always a Sox fan. Our mother was a Cubs fan. I don\u2019t know, maybe that clued in there and our dad was a Cardinals fan, so I don\u2019t know where all that came from.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd all the Aunts, our mom\u2019s family was from the north side, so that\u2019s why they were Cubs fans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Cubs\/status\/1920573012333490433\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">The Cubs had initially attempted to claim<\/a> the new pope as one of their own and put up a message outside Wrigley Field that let it be known of Pope Leo XIV\u2019s fandom.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey Chicago. He\u2019s a Cubs fan!\u201d the sign read.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The image was posted to the Cubs\u2019 social media, but the White Sox quickly responded after the record had been set straight.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sports fans immediately wanted to know: is Pope Leo XIV a Cubs or a White Sox fan? Icon Sportswire via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>In a post of their own a few hours later, the Cubs posted a clip of the interview with WGN TV and an image of the video board inside Rate Field, which read, \u201cHey Chicago. He\u2019s a Sox fan!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/whitesox\/status\/1920605400484712617\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">They also posted it along <\/a>with the caption, \u201cWell, would you look at that\u2026 Congratulations to Chicago\u2019s own Pope Leo XIV.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pope Leo XIV became the first American to ever be elected pontiff in the Catholic Church\u2019s 2,000-year history.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pope Leo XIV was quickly revealed to be a White Sox fan.
