TAMPA, FL \u2014\u00a0Detroit Tigers<\/a> right-hander Casey Mize<\/a> threw a 92 mph four-seam fastball with his final pitch in the sixth inning against the Tampa Bay Rays<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It was his slowest fastball of the game.<\/p>\n

And 2.4 mph slower than his average fastball velocity.<\/p>\n

After that pitch, Mize exited the game early Sunday, June 22, at George M. Steinbrenner Field, but it’s unclear if he’s injured. The 28-year-old departed after a mound visit from manager A.J. Hinch<\/a> and assistant athletic trainer Kelly Rhoades<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mize allowed one run on six hits and zero walks with five strikeouts across five-plus innings in Sunday’s start, throwing a total of 80 pitches. He surrendered a solo home run to Junior Caminero in the fourth inning.<\/p>\n

Aside from that, he was lights out against the Rays.<\/p>\n

He has a 2.88 ERA in 13 starts.<\/p>\n

Earlier in 2025, Mize missed two weeks \u2014 from May 9 to May 24 \u2014 with a left hamstring strain<\/a>. He also missed two months with a left hamstring strain in 2024, sidelined from July 3 to Aug. 30<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Tigers already have two starting pitchers on the injured list: right-hander Reese Olson<\/a> (right ring finger inflammation) and right-hander Jackson Jobe<\/a> (right elbow surgery).<\/p>\n
