The \u201cmajority of the protesters\u2019 signs and chants <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/06\/20\/federal-immigration-presence-at-dodger-stadium-sparks-controversy-fears-of-politicized-enforcement-in-sports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/06\/20\/federal-immigration-presence-at-dodger-stadium-sparks-controversy-fears-of-politicized-enforcement-in-sports\/\">targeted ICE<\/a>,\u201d while others \u201cconveyed their displeasure with the Dodgers.\u201d The Dodgers \u201cremained publicly silent for more than two weeks\u201d after protests sparked by immigration raids and mass deportation started June 6 in downtown L.A. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/mlb\/dodgers\/2025\/06\/21\/dodger-stadium-ice-protests-los-angeles\/84303527007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/mlb\/dodgers\/2025\/06\/21\/dodger-stadium-ice-protests-los-angeles\/84303527007\/\">USA TODAY, 6\/21<\/a>). THE ATHLETIC\u2019s Sam Blum wrote \u201cmany of those in attendance wore Dodgers gear, self-proclaimed lifelong fans disappointed in their favorite team.\u201d On Saturday, many protesters said that the response \u201cremains inadequate, both financially and in terms of what they view as a less-than-forceful stance by the organization in addressing the raids.\u201d The crowd \u201cgrew throughout the mid-afternoon,\u201d with \u201cseveral hundred protesters lining Sunset Boulevard\u201d &#8212; the corner that almost every car entering the main entrance to Dodger Stadium must pass. In L.A., Jim Alexander wrote at \u201ca moment when so many members of that community have felt &#8212; or actually have been &#8212; targeted, the organization has been silent.\u201d Only Thursday \u201cdid we hear a peep.\u201d Alexander wondered why did the Dodgers \u201cwait this long, especially after\u201d retired Spanish broadcaster Jaime Jarr\u00edn and utility player Kik\u00e9 Hernandez had \u201cposted individual messages of support.\u201d The Dodgers \u201cfinally made their awaited announcement\u201d of the donation around 3:30pm PT Friday, which Alexander noted is \u201ca start\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailynews.com\/2025\/06\/20\/alexander-have-dodgers-let-down-their-latino-fans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dailynews.com\/2025\/06\/20\/alexander-have-dodgers-let-down-their-latino-fans\/\">L.A. DAILY NEWS, 6\/20<\/a>). <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-franchises \">HELD TO A DIFFERENT STANDARD: In L.A., Gustavo Arellano feels sports teams \u201chave no obligation to take stances on the issues of the day and probably shouldn\u2019t.\u201d He said they are \u201ccapitalist endeavors, not charity cases, whose stated mission is to provide bread and circuses to the masses.\u201d Social justice-minded followers \u201ctoo often willfully forget this.\u201d However, he wrote \u201cthey and the rest of us deserve to hold the Dodgers to a higher standard because that\u2019s how they have always marketed themselves.\u201d Arellano: \u201cThey\u2019re the organization that broke baseball\u2019s color barrier with Jackie Robinson. That expanded the game\u2019s international reach with Valenzuela, Hideo Nomo and Chan Ho Park. That established baseball academies across Latin America and fostered a Latino fan base unlike any other in U.S. professional sports.\u201d He noted the $1M commitment in financial assistance is a \u201cgood start,\u201d but hopes the team \u201csees it as just a start.\u201d President Donald Trump has \u201calready promised that the same rage he\u2019s inflicting on L.A.\u202fwill soon come to Chicago and New York, cities with large immigrant populations and their own historic baseball teams.\u201d That is why the Dodgers \u201cneed to summon the moral courage of their past even more and once again set an example others want to follow\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2025-06-21\/dodgers-ice-raids-dodger-stadium\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2025-06-21\/dodgers-ice-raids-dodger-stadium\">L.A.
