The Red Sox<\/a>\u2019 stunning decision to trade Rafael Devers<\/a> to the San Francisco Giants drew a lot of criticism on social media. But one MLB insider believes Boston did \u201cthe right thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFor his trade, I think they did as well as they could have possibly done. We\u2019re talking about a designated hitter who was a malcontent,\u201d MLB Network\u2019s Jon Heyman said recently on \u201cMLB Central.\u201d<\/a> \u201dHe\u2019s an unhappy guy, not doing his best, he is only a DH for them, we know that. And $30 million a year for them to bring in four players \u2026 I think they did great. If you\u2019re just talking about the trade, and that\u2019s all, I\u2019d give them an A+.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Red Sox acquired<\/a> pitchers Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison as well as prospects James Tibbs III and Jose Bello. Baseball America ranked Tibbs as the Giants\u2019 No. 3 prospect and is a power-hitting outfielder.<\/p>\n

The Giants also took on the entirety of Devers\u2019 contract, which has eight years and $250 million remaining.<\/p>\n

Hicks, who\u2019s on the injured list with a toe injury, began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester<\/a> but struggled on the mound. The righty allowed two runs on three hits while recording two outs. He threw 23 pitches, 10 of them for strikes. The Red Sox won\u2019t rush him to MLB, but manager Alex Cora said Friday could be a possibility<\/a> for Hicks to be activated from the IL.<\/p>\n

Harrison, who\u2019s looked at as the big prize in the Devers trade, will start for the WooSox on Thursday.<\/p>\n

While there\u2019s upside when it comes to who Boston got back, the Red Sox now have a big hole on offense. Devers found a groove as Boston\u2019s designated hitter with 15 home runs and 58 RBI before he was dealt to the West Coast.<\/p>\n
