Nothing has gone perfectly for the Philadelphia Phillies this season, but they still sit at 47-31 and are now 1.5 games ahead of the New York Mets in the National League East.<\/p>\n

That just goes to show how good the Phillies truly are, but it’s tough not to get the sense that this is the same type of team that they’ve been over the past few years.<\/p>\n

The Phillies are a good team, but not a great one, making it questionable whether they’ll ever have the opportunity to win a World Series. The Phillies have been on the doorstep, but have yet to get the job done.<\/p>\n

And if they want to get the job done, it might require them to make some tough decisions, one that might not make many in the clubhouse too happy.<\/p>\n

Recently, Tim Kelly of OnPattison suggested one that would be somewhat of a surprise, predicting that the Phillies might eventually have enough with Bryson Stott and could send him down in favor of Otto Kemp.<\/p>\n

“Whether the Phillies would seriously consider using one of Stott’s three remaining minor-league options if he doesn’t get going at the plate is unclear,” Kelly wrote<\/a>. “But Stott entered (this season) needing to prove that last season was a fluke and he should be thought of as a core piece moving forward. So far, he hasn’t come close to doing that, and the clock is ticking.”<\/p>\n

Stott isn’t having his best year offensively, currently posting an 80 OPS+, a year after just an 86 OPS+. He also only has 16 home runs in that span.<\/p>\n

Kemp, who has only 50 at-bats in Major League Baseball, has proven to be a decent option. However, giving him full-time at-bats could be a bit questionable with the position the Phillies are in.<\/p>\n
