If you looked at this Seattle Mariners<\/a> team in the offseason, you would not expect them to be leading the American League West as we approach the end of the first quarter of the season.<\/p>\n

With their 22-14 record, they are doing just that and more. Along with leading the division by three games over the Athletics<\/a>, the Mariners also have the second-best record in the American League, and the fourth-best in MLB.<\/p>\n

It has come on the strength of their current streak of nine-straight series victories, a mark they extended with their win Wednesday over the Athletics.<\/p>\n

The goal in baseball, as in all sports, is to win more games than you lose. If you can do that successfully, you put yourself in a strong position for the postseason. And if you can win more series than you lose, it’s even better.<\/p>\n

For more context, Seattle has had 12 different series to this point in the 2025 campaign. Winning nine in a row is no easy feat, but it is one they have accomplished.<\/p>\n

This stretch dates back to their three-game set with the Houston Astros<\/a> from April 7 through April 9, and includes a three-game sweep of the Texas Rangers<\/a> and a two-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The schedule does get tougher over the next couple of weeks. After the next series with the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a>, the Mariners host the New York Yankees<\/a>, who hold the third-best record in the American League, followed by a trip to take on the San Diego Padres<\/a> at Petco Park, who hold the third-best record in MLB.<\/p>\n
