DETROIT — Former Detroit Tigers utility man Tyler Nevin is extending his career in Japan. <\/p>\n

Nevin, 28 has agreed to a two-year extension with the Seibu Lions<\/a> of Japan\u2019s Nippon Professional Baseball that would take him through the 2027 season.<\/p>\n

He is currently in his first season with the Lions, where he\u2019s one of four foreign players on the roster. Former Tigers teammate Trey Wingenter is also pitching for the club.<\/p>\n

Nevin spent most of the 2024 season with the Oakland Athletics, posting a .618 OPS (80 OPS+) in 278 plate appearances, with 10 doubles and seven home runs.<\/p>\n

He had four separate stints with the Tigers in 2023. A consistent hitter at Triple-A Toledo, Nevin struggled in the majors, hitting .200 with a .622 OPS (72 OPS+) in 111 plate appearances. He tallied two homers, three doubles, and a triple while playing first base, third base, and both corner outfield spots.<\/p>\n

Originally acquired in a cash trade with the Baltimore Orioles on Jan. 1, 2023, Nevin was traded back to the Orioles for cash considerations<\/a> on Jan. 22, 2024. He was later claimed off waivers by the Athletics.<\/p>\n

Phil Nevin, Tyler\u2019s father, played for the Tigers from 1995-97 and later coached in the organization.
