It was a busy day down on the farm, as thanks to rainouts, a total of nine games were played. Padres affiliates went 4-5 on Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

El Paso Chihuahuas \u2013 Doubleheader vs Sugar Land<\/p>\n

In the first of two seven-inning games, El Paso scored ten runs in their final two innings at bat to steal a 10-7 victory from the Space Cowboys. Yonathan Perlaza<\/a> had an RBI single and scored two runs, and Nate Mondou cleared the bases with a double to tie the game in the fifth. Tin Locastro and Forrest Wall<\/a> followed up with RBI singles to make the score 6-4. After three runs scored for Sugar Land in the sixth, Clay Dungan gave El Paso a lead with a two-run double, and Tim Locastro<\/a> singled in two more runs to give the Chihuahuas a 10-7 lead.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Wes Benjamin allowed four runs in 4.1 innings of work, as the left-hander managed to keep the baserunners to a near-minimum. Three of the four runs to score off Benjamin came on sacrifice flies. Manuel Castro<\/a> made his Chihuahuas debut with 0.2 innings and his first Triple-A strikeout. The right-hander averaged 94.2 mph on his heater, and while the Stuff+ models weren\u2019t the biggest fans of his stuff (partially due to his 6.1 feet of extension off the mound), he made a good first impression. Jose Espada<\/a> allowed three runs on a three-run homer in an inning of work. Eduarniel Nunez<\/a> closed out the win with a scoreless ninth inning, touching 101.1 mph.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a de facto bullpen game, El Paso\u2019s bullpen imploded, allowing eleven runs in seven innings of work. Kevin Kopps got the nod as the opener and threw 0.2 innings, allowing two hits and four runs. Only one of the four runs charged to Kopps was of the earned variety, but the right-hander\u2019s command was not sharp. Austin Krob<\/a> allowed two runs in 1.2 innings, walking four batters. Jason Blanchard<\/a> allowed three runs in 2.2 innings, and Raul Brito<\/a> allowed two runs in two innings with four strikeouts.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The lineup was held to three runs in five innings by Sugar Land starter Tyler Ivey<\/a>. The Chihuahuas only registered three runs on six hits in the first five innings. Nate Mondou singled in a run in the bottom of the first, and Forrest Wall drew a bases-loaded walk in the same frame. El Paso\u2019s third run would come off the bat of Luis Campusano, who singled to score Mason McCoy<\/a>. McCoy reached base twice in the game, and Emil Turbi<\/a> hit his first Triple-A double in the game as a pinch-hitter. Campusano would homer in the seventh inning off Michael Knorr<\/a> to score two runs, but the deficit was too large to overcome, with the team stranding seven runners in the loss.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After the Missions\u2019 June 26 game was suspended due to weather, it was resumed on Friday. Enmanuel Pinales made his return to the Missions\u2019 active roster, tossing 5.1 innings of shutout relief. The hard-throwing right-hander picked up five strikeouts along the way in his first game action since June 17. Tyson Neighbors<\/a> threw two innings of relief, allowing two runs on three walks and a base hit.<\/p>\n

At the plate, Kai Murphy<\/a> had given the Missions a 1-0 lead before the game was suspended. Upon continuation, the team added on. Romeo Sanabria hit a sac fly to score a run, and Marcos Castanon<\/a> doubled to score another. Sanabria hit a single to score the team\u2019s fourth run, finishing with two hits on the day. Jake Snider<\/a> was 1-for-5 as the leadoff man, driving in a run, and Francisco Acuna<\/a> had an RBI single in the win. Ripken Reyes was 3-for-4 with a triple and a walk, reaching base four times.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As a result of the rainout, the Missions had a seven-inning game to handle. Victor Lizarraga made his first appearance since June 13, serving as the opener and tossing a seven-pitch first inning that featured a double play induced. Jagger Haynes pitched in relief for the first time this season and allowed four runs (three earned) in 1.2 innings. Haynes allowed a three-run homer in the third inning, and an RBI single from Luke Mann<\/a> chased the Missions southpaw. Jake Higginbotham<\/a> struck out three in two innings, and Stephen Jones<\/a> tossed 1.1 scoreless innings. Ethan Routzahn<\/a> was charged with the loss, as he allowed a walk-off single.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The lineup was a bit shaken up from Game 1, with Addison Kopack and Wyatt Hoffman<\/a> entering the lineup. Kopack went 1-for-1 with a walk and scored two runs. Moises Gomez reached base three times, drawing a bases-loaded walk and hitting a single. Brandon Valenzuela<\/a> grounded into a forceout to score a run, picking up his 35th RBI of the season. Francisco Acuna had an RBI single to score the Missions\u2019 fourth and final run of the game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Right-hander Isaiah Lowe struggled against the Great Lakes Loons, allowing six runs in 4.1 innings of work. Lowe was able to strike out four batters, but he allowed 12 baserunners, constantly weaving his way through base traffic. All six runs allowed by Lowe were earned, and he was knocked around for five in the first inning. Bodi Rascon<\/a> allowed two runs in 3.2 innings of long relief, and Luis German<\/a> struck out two in a scoreless frame.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There was very little of note from the TinCaps\u2019 lineup, as the team was held to one hit all game, that being a single by Sean Barnett in the sixth inning. The team only had four fly ball outs, striking out 14 times in the game. Braedon Karpathios<\/a> was the lone TinCap to not record a strikeout. Ryan Jackson and Brendan Durfee<\/a> were the lone two hitters to reach via the walk. Defensively, Durfee had an outstanding performance behind the plate, throwing out Zyhir Hope<\/a>, Kendall George<\/a>, and Jake Gelof<\/a> trying to steal bases. Opposing baserunners were 1-for-4 on stolen base attempts against Durfee, and Bodi Rascon had a pickoff as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 5-3 vs Modesto) (32-41 on the season)<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not always about how many hits a team gets; sometimes it\u2019s just about when they come. With EVT in attendance, the Storm used a five-run sixth inning to secure a Friday night win over the Modesto Nuts. Kaden Hollow had the biggest hit of the night, a double just out of the reach of Nuts center fielder Carlos Jimenez<\/a> to clear the bases and give Lake Elsinore a 4-3 lead. Lamar King Jr also had a double, and he was one of three runners who scored on Hollow\u2019s double. Kavares Tears<\/a> grounded into a forceout to score Chase Valentine<\/a> to score the first run of the inning. With Zach Evans<\/a> at the plate, a wild pitch from pitcher Jesse Wainscott<\/a> allowed Kaden Hollow to score.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Johan Moreno fared well as the starter, allowing three runs (one earned) in 3.1 innings of work. Moreno struck out four batters and walked two, showing stronger command of his stuff. Carson Swilling<\/a> was simply brilliant for the Storm, striking out four of five batters faced, tossing 1.2 shutout innings. Kleiber Montero had his sharpest outing of the season, throwing four innings of scoreless ball with four strikeouts. Montero\u2019s performance earned him the victory, and he threw 33 of his 48 pitches for strikes. Montero\u2019s area of growth has been his command, and on this Friday night, he gave a glimpse as to how strong of a tool it can be when he is on.\u00a0<\/p>\n

ACL Padres (Lost 5-3 vs ACL Brewers) (10-31 on the season)<\/p>\n

Luis De Leon had a two-hit game out of the leadoff spot, and in style, led off the game with a solo home run. De Leon\u2019s homer was his second of the season, and though he isn\u2019t the largest prospect, he\u2019s still got some thump in his bat. Jose Sanabria had two extra-base hits, a double and a triple, and scored a run. Kevin Hacen<\/a> drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the second inning, and would come around to score the team\u2019s third run on an RBI single by De Leon. Jack Mathey<\/a> and Jesmaylin Arias<\/a> each hit a single in the game, and while Albert Fabian<\/a> went hitless, he was able to record an outfield assist.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Maikel Miralles started on rehab assignment and threw two hitless frames with two strikeouts. Miralles, recovering from a lower-body injury, was sharp and efficient, and for the first outing of his rehab assignment, he fared well. Luis Maracara<\/a> allowed two runs in three innings of long relief, striking out two batters. As Maracara continues to get settled at the ACL level, his results will only improve. Erick Batista<\/a> took the loss, as he allowed three runs in 2.2 innings. Batista sports a WHIP at 2.65 this season, and for any chance at sustained success, he will significantly need to reduce the amount of baserunners he allows.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Padres Gold lost 2-1 vs the DSL Red Sox Blue due to a lack of hitting. Starter Raymel Belliard did his part, as the right-hander allowed two runs in four innings of work. Belliard only struck out one batter, but was able to generate five ground ball outs. Johan Minaya<\/a> and Jose Ortega<\/a> each tossed a scoreless inning in relief. Isaac Ponce and Alexander Garcia had the team\u2019s two base hits, each hitting a single. Santiago Contreras<\/a> reached base once via the walk and scored the team\u2019s only run of the game on a wild pitch.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kelvin Marte threw four innings of two-run baseball as the Padres Brown rode a late-inning rally to win 6-2 for their tenth win of the season. Marte struck out three and walked three in the game, generating four ground ball outs. Angel Mejia tied the game in the second inning with a two-RBI single, and Jose Bericoto<\/a> gave the team the lead with an RBI single of his own. Darian Castillo had a perfect day at the plate, hitting a two-RBI single and walking twice in the game. Abraham Bastidas<\/a> had an RBI single of his own in the win. Kaden Hernandez<\/a> made the most of his lone at-bat, singling and later scoring. Daniel Burciaga<\/a> earned his first career win with two scoreless innings of relief. <\/p>\n
