The Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly have their sights set on Miami Marlins right-handed pitcher Sandy Alcantara as the trade deadline nears. <\/p>\n

The Dodgers\u2019 aggressiveness to sign pitchers last winter almost seemed excessive, but president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said the goal was to avoid the trade market in July. <\/p>\n Lo and behold, the Dodgers once again find themselves in need of another starter. Three staples of the starting rotation in Tyler Glasnow, Roki Sasaki, and Blake Snell have been sidelined for a majority of the season.<\/p>\n However, Friedman recently said the Dodgers are hopeful said pitchers will make their return in due time. <\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m still optimistic,\u201d Friedman said. \u201cIt requires guys coming back on or close to the timelines that we have penciled out. We have shown that, if we\u2019re not in position to do that, we\u2019ll be aggressive to add. But our strong desire is not to.\u201d<\/p>\n After entering October with a starting rotation that featured Jack Flaherty, Yoshinobu Yamamoto (who had missed almost three months of his rookie season due to injury), and Walker Buehler (who had struggled mightily throughout the regular season), the Dodgers will likely do everything possible to avoid a similar scenario in 2025. <\/p>\n Alcantara hasn\u2019t looked like he did in 2022, when he unanimously won the Cy Young award. The right-hander is recovering from Tommy John surgery, but has slowly found his rhythm as of late. <\/p>\n Alcantara is 2-1 with a 2.74 ERA across four starts in June. The right-hander won\u2019t be a cheap acquisition, but when has trading prospects away ever stopped the Dodgers?<\/p>\n
