As expected, the A\u2019s are having another rough season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

What maybe wasn\u2019t as predictable was Luis Severino\u2019s wildly up-and-down first year with them after signing as a free agent<\/a> after the right-hander\u2019s strong bounce-back season with the Mets a year ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Given Severino\u2019s struggles at the A\u2019s temporary home in Sacramento \u2014 a Triple-A ballpark \u2014 and his success on the road so far this year, he\u2019s already been mentioned as a potential trade target.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As The Post\u2019s Jon Heyman wrote Thursday<\/a>, the 31-year-old is \u201ca trade candidate.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

With the Mets in desperate need of starting pitching, with Griffin Canning the latest to be lost with a season-ending injury<\/a>, Severino was asked Saturday if he\u2019d be interested in getting moved by the deadline.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not thinking about that,\u2019\u2019 he said prior to the A\u2019s 7-0 win over the Yankees<\/a> at the Stadium, with Severino set to pitch against his former team for the first time in The Bronx on Sunday. \u201cI\u2019m just trying to concentrate on doing my job and getting better.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Severino is well aware that he\u2019s been brutal at home (0-7, 6.79 ERA with a 1.596 WHIP in 10 starts at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento) and mostly superb on the road (2-1, 2.27 with a 1.031 WHIP in seven outings).\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt hasn\u2019t been the best year so far, but I\u2019m healthy,\u2019\u2019 said Severino, who\u2019s already at 100 \u00b2\/\u2083 innings this year after pitching 182 with the Mets last year, plus another 16 \u00b2\/\u2083 in the playoffs. \u201cI\u2019ve been really bad at home. I hope from now on or after the [All-Star] break it gets better and I figure it out.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

That\u2019s presuming Severino is still with the A\u2019s at that point.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said he hasn\u2019t heard of any teams being interested in acquiring him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSo it\u2019s not hard for me to focus here,\u2019\u2019 Severino said. \u201cFor me, I have to do my job. If [a trade] happens, it happens. I\u2019ll be ready. My main thing is being healthy.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Of the Mets, with whom he resurrected his career in 2024 after an ugly end to his long tenure with the Yankees, Severino said, \u201cIt\u2019s not up to me. They were great to me last year, so if it happened, I definitely won\u2019t say no, but it\u2019s about whatever [the A\u2019s] need.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Severino previously said he told his agent he would stay with the Mets for two years and $40 million, but the club was willing to go only as far as it did with Frankie Montas, who signed a two-year, $34 million deal.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After this season, Severino is still owed $47 million over the next two years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Severino has been outspoken about the difficulty in pitching at a minor league stadium \u2014 an issue he was well aware of when he signed the three-year, $67 million contract to go to the A\u2019s.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew it was a young team, but I wasn\u2019t expecting the field to play like it has,\u2019\u2019 Severino said. \u201cI want to do better there. I just have to figure out how to pitch better at home.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
