{"id":13836,"date":"2025-05-09T17:17:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-09T17:17:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/13836\/"},"modified":"2025-05-09T17:17:10","modified_gmt":"2025-05-09T17:17:10","slug":"detroit-tigers-tied-with-los-angeles-dodgers-for-best-record-in-mlb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/13836\/","title":{"rendered":"Detroit Tigers tied with Los Angeles Dodgers for best record in MLB"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s a new team in the top five of ESPN\u2019s latest MLB Power Rankings \u2014 the Detroit Tigers.<\/p>\n<p>The Tigers, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/sports\/mlb\/tigers\/2025\/05\/08\/tigers-sweep-rockies-return-to-detroit-with-bats-blazing\/83511178007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">swept a three-game series from the Colorado Rockies,<\/a> now are tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the best record in baseball (25-13, .658), following the Dodgers\u2019 loss to Arizona on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The Tigers have a 2\u00bd-game lead over Cleveland and Kansas City in the AL Central as they open a three-game weekend series against Texas on Friday night at Comerica Park.<\/p>\n<p>The Tigers are fifth in ESPN\u2019s latest rankings, which were released on Thursday, following the No. 1 Dodgers, No. 2 Mets, No. 3 Padres and No. 4 Cubs. The Tigers climbed from No. 7 in the previous rankings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"related-link\">Subscribers: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/sports\/mlb\/tigers\/2025\/05\/08\/chet-lemon-added-dynamic-defense-personality-to-detroit-tigers-1984-championship-team\/83518458007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Henning: Lemon added dynamic defense, personality to Tigers&#8217; 1984 championship team<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Tigers have flourished in a number of ways during the season&#8217;s opening weeks but one thing that really stands out is the degree to which they have dominated at Comerica Park,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/45024720\/mlb-2025-power-rankings-week-6-dodgers-mets-padres-cubs-tigers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">writes ESPN\u2019s Bradford Doolittle.<\/a> \u201cThey&#8217;ve started 13-3 at home with a net per-game differential of plus-2.81 runs, the best in baseball. To put it another way, that differential translates to an .819 expected winning percentage, or 133 wins over 162 games.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Tigers\u2019 overall run differential is plus-83, which leads MLB by a large margin. The Yankees are second at plus-61, followed by the Mets (plus-59), Cubs (plus-58) and Dodgers (plus-51).<\/p>\n<p>The Tigers, who opened the season being swept in a three-game series by the Dodgers, have won four in a row and seven of their last eight.<\/p>\n<p>They lead the majors in hitting (.262) and are second in runs and RBIs.
