The New York Mets appeared to regain momentum after a three-game slide with wins over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday and Thursday, but their series with the Pittsburgh Pirates over the weekend was embarrassing.<\/p>\n

The Mets not only got swept by the last-place Pirates, but they also got outscored 30-4 over the three games. New York is now 1.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East and a half-game ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers for the NL’s top Wild Card spot.<\/p>\n

A report surfaced about the Mets’ coaching staff after Sunday’s 12-1 loss, via SNY’s Andy Martino.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m told that Mets officials continue to believe in their major league coaching staff,” he reported.<\/p>\n

Manager Carlos Mendoza led the team to the NLCS in his first year at the helm last season. However, New York fans are not giving him and the staff grace on social media.<\/p>\n

“What if we don\u2019t believe in them?” one asked.<\/p>\n

“Mets officials are like an abused spouse who refuses to see the obvious,” another said.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m told [general manager] David Stearns is a bum,” one said.<\/p>\n

“Of course they do lmao. They\u2019ll let the season slip away before making any changes,” another said. “Teams in the midst of yet another historic choke, and Stearns’ answer is rolling out dudes off the street instead of calling up some legit prospects. [Francisco] Lindor, [Brandon] Nimmo & [Pete] Alonso aren’t getting any younger.”<\/p>\n

“Keep believing in them as they continue to spontaneously combust into flames,” another said.<\/p>\n

“I think the coaching staff needs to be held accountable, starting with Mendy \u2026 Phillies had a similar situation a few years ago and fired [Joe] Girardi, brought in [Rob] Thomson, and they turned it around \u2026 too much talent in this team to be as inconsistent as they are,” another said.<\/p>\n
