Top Pitching Performance of the Week<\/p>\n
It would be easy to pick Jacob Misiorowski for the third week in a row here after he outdueled Paul Skenes on Wednesday, but we can\u2019t ignore what Quinn Priester did to the Rockies on Saturday. Priester pitched seven shutout innings, allowed only one hit, and struck out a career-high 11 batters in what was the best start of his career by the measure of game score by a pretty significant margin.<\/p>\n
Top Hitting Performance of the Week<\/p>\n
There were several excellent Brewers offensive players this week \u2014 five different regular starters had an OPS over .850, and Brice Turang and Christian Yelich are both riding double-digit hitting streaks as we turn the calendar to July. But I\u2019m going to give some love to the much-maligned Joey Ortiz. It\u2019s been a struggle for much of the season, but Ortiz has been showing signs of a breakout for several weeks now, and while he didn\u2019t get many hits this week (he was 4-for-21), he made the ones he did get count. The owner of just two home runs through the first 13 weeks of the season, Ortiz hit three in the last five games, including two in Tuesday\u2019s win over the Pirates.<\/p>\n
Injury Notes & Roster Moves<\/p>\n
OF Blake Perkins was sent to Triple-A Nashville on a rehab assignment on Thursday and played his first game there on Friday. He\u2019s been out since the beginning of spring training with a fractured shin, but could be back in the fold in Milwaukee soon.
\nOF Garrett Mitchell, who injured his shoulder last week, got a second opinion that confirmed that he needs another surgery. That surgery is scheduled for July 1, but it is not necessarily season-ending.
\nPitcher Nestor Cortes Jr. has been throwing simulated innings and is scheduled to make his first rehab start at Triple-A Nashville on July 2. He could be back shortly after the All-Star break.
\nPitcher Connor Thomas, a Rule 5 pick back in December, needs surgery on his elbow and is likely done for the season after debuting earlier this year.
\nBrandon Woodruff threw 82 pitches, topped 95 miles per hour, and didn\u2019t get hit by any line drives in a rehab start at Triple-A Nashville on Sunday. He\u2019s likely to make his much-anticipated return to the Brewers next weekend.<\/p>\n
