The Chicago Cubs are expected to have a massive trade deadline, but who the team will target remains uncertain. If Jed Hoyer wants to have as strong of a deadline as he needs to, it’ll require him to move on from some of his top prospects.<\/p>\n

According to former MLB general manager Jim Bowden, the Cubs are willing to part ways with some of their top prospects, including Owen Cassie.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Cubs are going to win the trade deadline in the NL Central,\u201d Bowden said<\/a> on \u201cFoul Territory TV.” \u201cThey\u2019re everywhere right now, and they\u2019re willing to part with Owen Cassie, one of their top power-hitting outfield prospects. And (president of baseball operations) Jed Hoyer and (general manager) Carter Hawkins are literally everywhere. I talk to people in the industry, and they\u2019re all in to do what it takes to win.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is important news, as Hoyer will likely improve his team drastically if he\u2019s willing to move on from any of his top prospects. Outside of Cassie, there should be some other guys who could be dealt with. However, it sounds like he could be the biggest name available.<\/p>\n

It’s also promising that Bowden has heard from people around the league that Hoyer and Carter Hawkins are doing whatever they can to find packages.<\/p>\n

With the trade deadline at the end of July, the Cubs still have a few days to weeks before things genuinely heat up. However, once it reaches the second half of this month, they\u2019ll have to be ready to go.<\/p>\n
