The Los Angeles Dodgers lost yet another pitcher as Michael Kopech was placed on the 15-day injured list with right knee inflammation<\/a> prior to their series opener against the Chicago White Sox.<\/p>\n

The IL stint is retroactive to June 28, making July 13 the earliest date that Kopech can return.<\/p>\n

The right-hander is on the IL for a second time this season after opening the year inactive because of a right shoulder impingement. Kopech was activated on June 7 after a lengthy rehab process and threw seven scoreless innings before the latest issue.<\/p>\n

Kopech said he is pain-free and that going on the IL was more of a precautionary measure. He underwent an MRI that only showed inflammation, which was treated with a cortisone injection.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know the incident that it happened, but getting the shot, hoping the pain, inflammation, is subdued,\u201d Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Kopech\u2019s knee injury. <\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, putting him on the IL was smart to get ahead of it. I don\u2019t think it will be a long-term situation. He\u2019s going to be able to keep his arm going, so that\u2019s good. I think we\u2019re all hopeful it will be on the shorter end.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Roberts noted, Kopech will continue to throw while he treats his knee, which is a factor in the team being optimistic the injury won\u2019t be a long-term issue. However, L.A. will make sure he is completely healthy before activating him as they prioritize the postseason.<\/p>\n

Michael Kopech career with Dodgers <\/p>\n

The Dodgers acquired Kopech from the White Sox as part of a three-team trade at the deadline last year and he has gone on to become an important member of the bullpen.<\/p>\n

In parts of two seasons, the 29-year-old has pitched to a 4-0 record with a 0.87 ERA, 2.53 FIP, 0.84 WHIP and 10.7 strikeouts per nine across 31 innings in 32 appearances.<\/p>\n
