On Seattle Sports\u2019 Brock and Salk this week, they\u2019re letting producer Lyle Goldstein<\/a> take the reins for a daily Seattle Mariners draft profile segment.<\/p>\n

Keith Law\u2019s top draft options for Seattle Mariners at No. 3 overall<\/a><\/p>\n

Goldstein is also half of the Marine Layer podcast<\/a> that covers the Mariners closely, and he\u2019s had his eye on this MLB Draft for a while, especially since the M\u2019s were lucky in the draft lottery and landed the No. 3 overall pick<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The draft starts with the first round at 3 p.m. Sunday on ESPN and MLB Network. Here\u2019s Goldstein\u2019s first profile, which focuses on Oregon State \u2013 and former UW Huskies \u2013 shortstop Aiva Arquette.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe pros<\/p>\n

\u2022 As a 6-foot-5, 220-pound shortstop, it\u2019s hard not to make comparisons of Arquette to Carlos Correa, Corey Seager and Troy Tulowitzki, who were also big shortstops when they were drafted.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Arquette hits the ball really hard \u2013 his exit velocity got as high as 113 mph this year at OSU. That\u2019ll drop a little in pro ball with a wood bat, but still, the hard hit potential is definitely there.<\/p>\n

\u2022 He has a chance to be a 20-25 homer guy in the show. He hit 19 in 65 games for Oregon State as a junior in 2025.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Arquette played at UW for three seasons before transferring to OSU for 2025, and he put up a .900 OPS in his final year with the Huskies. That\u2019s notable because Husky Ballpark is 100 feet from the water on Lake Washington with high wind and no third deck to block any of it. So even though that was with a metal bat, it could temper concerns about him hitting in Seattle.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Arquette\u2019s glove isn\u2019t flashy, but insiders think he\u2019s got a real chance to stick at shortstop. It sounds like he\u2019s solid defender but nothing special in the field.<\/p>\n

The cons<\/p>\n

\u2022 The concerns seem to be that he has some swing and miss at the plate. He doesn\u2019t have a bad approach, only striking out about 17% of the time this year, but it\u2019s more the actual whiff in his game.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Arquette isn\u2019t much of a runner\/base stealer. He had just seven steals this year.<\/p>\n

\u2022 He probably wouldn\u2019t go as high as No. 3 in a more talented draft class. He\u2019s not the college bat that Washington\u2019s Dylan Crews (No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft), Texas\u2019 Wyatt Langford (No. 4 in 2023) or Kansas City\u2019s Jac Caglianone (No. 6 in 2024) were in college.<\/p>\n
