After both National League Division Series were knotted up at one game apiece<\/a> on Sunday, the two AL wild-card teams were looking for road wins in Game 2 on Monday in hopes of evening their series and heading back home for Game 3 with home-field advantage.<\/p>\n

In the first game of the day, the Detroit Tigers sent AL Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal to the hill in Cleveland against the Guardians. The 27-year-old delivered another stellar outing, with seven scoreless innings pitched. Trouble was, the Guardians’ pitchers matched all of Skubal’s zeros. The game was in a scoreless tie until Kerry Carpenter came through against All-Star closer Emmanuel Clase<\/a>, putting up the game’s only runs with a three-run homer in the ninth. The series is tied 1-1 as it heads to Detroit.<\/p>\n

In the nightcap, the Kansas City Royals tied things up in the Bronx with a 4-2 victory over the Yankees. Salvador Perez led the way with a solo home run, and three more RBI singles were enough to notch the victory for Kansas City against a Yankees team that couldn’t get anything going on offense<\/a>. The Royals head home for Game 3 tied 1-1.<\/p>\n

Royals 4, Yankees 2<\/p>\n

With a four-run fourth inning, which got started with a Salvador Perez home run, the Royals powered ahead to grab a 4-2 win over the New York Yankees in the Bronx in Game 2 of their ALDS. That tied the series 1-1 as it heads to Kansas City later this week.<\/p>\n

After Perez’s homer, which tied the game 1-1, the Royals followed with RBI singles from Tommy Pham, Garrett Hampson and Maikel Garcia, which broke the game open.<\/p>\n

The Yankees failed to answer time and time again<\/a>. Reliever Angel Zerpa got the Royals out of the fifth, despite allowing Aaron Judge to reach base, and the Yankees managed just one hit from their next seven batters.<\/p>\n

While the Yankees added one run in the ninth on a Jazz Chisholm homer and got the tying run to the plate with two outs, their push came too late. The Royals held on to grab the two-run win, which officially tied their series 1-1. The ALDS moves to Kansas City for Game 3 on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Tigers 3, Guardians 0<\/p>\n

Kerry Carpenter\u2019s three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning<\/a> off All-Star closer Emmanuel Clase gave the Detroit Tigers a 3-0 victory over the Cleveland Guardians in Game 2 of their ALDS.<\/p>\n

During the season, Clase allowed only two home runs while compiling a 0.61 ERA. His performance led some to suggest he should be considered for the American League Cy Young Award.<\/p>\n

But the Tigers have the likely winner in Tarik Skubal. The AL\u2019s Triple Crown winner threw seven scoreless innings in this one, allowing three hits with eight strikeouts. He didn\u2019t surrender a hit until Josh Naylor led off the fifth inning with a double.<\/p>\n

Detroit also had difficulty scoring through eight innings and was in jeopardy of squandering Skubal\u2019s effort. What appeared to be their best chance to score was erased by a diving catch by Steven Kwan<\/a> to end the eighth.<\/p>\n

Matthew Boyd started for Cleveland and didn’t allow a run while striking out five in his 4 2\/3 innings. Cade Smith, Tim Herrin and Hunter Gaddis also kept the Tigers off the board in three innings of relief.<\/p>\n
