Reds pitcher Andrew Abbott talks about MLB All-Star selection<\/p>\n

Cincinnati Reds lefty Andrew Abbott learned of his MLB All-Star selection in the first inning Tuesday and immediately texted his parents at the game.<\/p>\n

When Cincinnati Reds<\/a> catcher Jose Trevino recorded the slowest pitch<\/a> of the 2025 MLB season July 8 against the Miami Marlins<\/a>, he was trying to break the record of a pitch he received in 2021, according to FanDuel Sports Network reporter Jim Day.<\/p>\n

Day said during the broadcast of the Reds’ win July 9<\/a> that Trevino was trying to set the record for the slowest pitch on record.<\/p>\n

“It’s in a blowout game,” Day said. “What are you gonna do? When a position player is on the mound, it’s not a great situation. So you try to have as much fun with it as you can. 31.1 miles per hour I believe is the record: Brock Holt. On the catching end of that was \u2026 Jose Trevino. So last night he came close with a few eephus pitches but didn’t quite get the record. But (his teammates) were egging him on. \u2026 Trevino’s been talking up his knuckleball for a long, long time. (Tyler) Stephenson said it is legit. It is hard to catch.”<\/p>\n

Holt’s 31.1 mile-per-hour eephus pitch<\/a> during the Athletics<\/a>‘ 12-3 blowout<\/a> of the Texas Rangers<\/a> was caught by his then-Rangers teammate Trevino.<\/p>\n
