{"id":172046,"date":"2025-07-13T02:02:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-13T02:02:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/172046\/"},"modified":"2025-07-13T02:02:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-13T02:02:11","slug":"chicago-white-sox-prospect-noah-schultz-struggles-in-futures-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/172046\/","title":{"rendered":"Chicago White Sox prospect Noah Schultz struggles in Futures Game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ATLANTA \u2014 Josue De Paula hit a three-run home run in a four-run fourth inning and the National League beat the American League 4-2 on Saturday in the All-Star Futures Game featuring top prospects.<\/p>\n<p>The National League is 4-1-1 since the Futures Game moved from a United States versus World format to AL versus NL in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Noah Schultz, a left-hander in the Chicago White Sox\u2019s organization, gave up four hits and four runs, including the line-drive home run by De Paula that traveled 416 feet to right-center. De Paula, an outfielder, plays for High-A Great Lakes in the Los Angeles Dodgers\u2019 organization.<\/p>\n<p>De Paula, selected the game\u2019s Most Valuable Player, said the home run is \u201cdefinitely a motivator\u201d in his path to the major leagues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me mentally, a big moment,\u201d De Paula said. \u201cIt proved to me, especially to myself, who I really am.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schultz then gave up a single to LuJames Groover, who scored on Chicago Cubs prospect Owen Caissie\u2019s double to left field.<\/p>\n<p>New York Yankees infield prospect George Lombard Jr., the son of Detroit Tigers bench coach George Lombard, walked, stole second base and scored on Sox prospect Braden Montgomery\u2019s groundout in the third to give the AL a 1-0 lead. Lombard also had a double.<\/p>\n<p>Josue Brice\u00f1o, a Double A catcher for Detroit, tripled and scored on Sebastian Walcott\u2019s sacrifice fly in the fourth to push the lead to 2-0.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Owen Caissie #17 of the Chicago Cubs warms up ahead of the 2025 All-Star Futures Game at Truist Park on July 12, 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Jamie Squire\/Getty Images)<br \/>\nChill bumps for Chipper<\/p>\n<p>Two former Atlanta stars, Chipper Jones and Marquis Grissom, were the managers for the NL and AL, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Jones was an eight-time All-Star third baseman who spent his entire career with Atlanta before becoming a first-ballot Hall of Fame inductee in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Jones and Grissom were teammates on Atlanta\u2019s 1995 World Series championship team. Grissom caught a fly ball in center field for the clinching final out in the win over Cleveland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t measure my chill bumps right now with a yard stick,\u201d Jones said when asked about the memory of watching Grissom \u201cjust glide to it and knowing that he\u2019s got a bead on it and this puppy\u2019s over, it was like it was happening in slow motion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For starters<\/p>\n<p>Right-hander JR Ritchie, an Atlanta prospect who has pitched for High-A Rome and Double-A Columbus this season, because the 10th pitcher to start a Futures Game in his organization\u2019s home park. Ritchie had two strikeouts in a scoreless first inning.<\/p>\n<p>Ritchie said he received a phone call from Jones telling him he would start.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was unbelievable,\u201d Ritchie said. \u201cI never thought Chipper Jones would call me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Left-hander Parker Messick, who is with Cleveland\u2019s Triple-A Columbus, had a scoreless first inning for the AL.<\/p>\n<p>Father and son<\/p>\n<p>Grissom\u2019s son, Marquis Grissom Jr., a right-hander for the Washington Nationals\u2019 Triple-A Rochester, gave up one run in one inning for the NL while his father was in the opposing dugout. He said he was looking forward to bragging about the win to his father.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe lost!\u201d Grissom Jr. said. \u201cHe took the L so he better be ready when I get home!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just happy to be a part of this, and get a chance to see my son, all the work he\u2019s put in to be a part of this and excel his baseball career,\u201d the elder Grissom said, adding the chance \u201cto be around the future stars of the game, it doesn\u2019t really get any better than that for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Switch-pitcher skills<\/p>\n<p>Seattle minor leaguer Jurrangelo Cijntje showed off his switch-pitching skills in his scoreless second inning for the AL.
