The Royals ended the first half of the season 47-50<\/a>, but just 4.5 games back of a playoff spot.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s clearly not the way we wanted the first half to go as far as the standings or what our record is,\u201d Quatraro said. \u201cAnd we know we have to play better consistently in the second half to get back in this and make September an interesting month.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we\u2019re hanging in there.\u201d<\/p>\n

The team was pretty hot about instant replay after a couple of calls went against them this weekend.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cHe beat it there clearly,\u201d Quatraro said. \u201cObviously, that part wasn\u2019t in dispute. Those guys do a good job of keeping the tag on. I can see why they overturned yesterday. I don\u2019t see why they overturned today.\u201d <\/p>\n

India was more blunt. He felt the overturned call was a detriment to the Royals as they attempted to get back in the game. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a joke and I think even yesterday\u2019s was a joke,\u201d India said. \u201cI don\u2019t think that is right and I think he was safe. There\u2019s not enough evidence to overturn that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Royals selected high school infielders Sean Gamble and Josh Hammond<\/a>, then grabbed three pitchers on the first day of the draft.<\/p>\n

Gamble is a Des Moines, Iowa, native, but he left his home state at 14 years old to go to IMG Academy, where he first went for summer camps. Coaches there recognized the talent, though, and offered him a spot for high school. Over the next four years, Gamble excelled \u2013 and got a lot stronger along the way.<\/p>\n

A smooth-swinging left-handed hitter, Gamble can barrel the ball to all fields and is developing more power as he keeps gaining strength. He controls the strike zone well and makes a ton of contact. His tools also include plus speed and a strong arm \u2013 both 55 on the 20-to-80 scale \u2013 which allows him to play center field.<\/p>\n

Jaylon Thompson talked to Jac Caglianone about his whirlwind year since last year\u2019s draft.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cCrazy would probably be the best word for it,\u201d Caglianone said of his yearlong journey. \u201cMe and Elli (McKissock) were talking about it this morning. She was like, \u2018Happy draft day.\u2019 It\u2019s weird to think a lot has happened in a year.\u201d<\/p>\n
