The Rays \u201cwill get to remain\u201d in their interim home at Steinbrenner Field should they make the playoffs, despite the small capacity, which has been 10,046 during the regular season. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said, \u201cIt\u2019s a unique situation. It\u2019s different, but that\u2019s where they\u2019re playing. That\u2019s where they\u2019re going to play their games.\u201d Manfred said that there \u201cwill be discussions about potentially expanding capacity by adding seats.\u201d He added that the \u201ccompetitive benefits of playing at home as opposed to a neutral site was a factor\u201d (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 7\/15<\/a>). <\/p>\n

When asked about the status of the team\u2019s planned return to Tropicana Field in 2026, Manfred said, \u201cWe think we\u2019re going to be ready to play in 2026 in the Trop. And we do have contingency plans in the event that it is not ready to go in 2026, but we\u2019re going to be ready.
