Basallo went 3-for-5 — his first three-hit game of the season — with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Jud Fabian and Vimael Machín also had multi-hit games, and TT Bowens hit a two-run homer. Coby Mayo took an 0-for-3 but walked twice.

The four runs were enough for a strong Norfolk pitching quintet that began with Trevor Rogers, who delivered his best outing of his rehab stint by giving up one run in 4.1 innings. Rogers walked one and struck out four. Four relievers — Corbin Martin, Roansy Contreras, Grant Wolfram, and Kade Strowd — silenced the Sounds the rest of the way, with Strowd tossing two scoreless innings for his first save.

Box score

Double-A: Portland Sea Dogs (BOS) 4, Chesapeake Baysox 3

The Baysox lost a walkoff when Red Sox #6 prospect Jhostynxon Garcia — nicknamed “The Password” because his first name seems like a bunch of random letters — led off the bottom of the ninth with a homer off of Juan De Los Santos. Well, who among us hasn’t given up a home run to a guy named Jhostynxon? It’s just part of growing up.

Overall, though, it was a pretty well-pitched game by the Baysox. Right-hander Levi Wells delivered a quality start with six innings and two runs allowed. Chesapeake didn’t manage much offense, though. Third baseman Max Wagner reached base three times with two hits and a walk, but nobody else got on base more than once. Shortstop Jeremiah Jackson hit a two-run homer in the sixth.

This game was supposed to be followed by a second game to make up Friday’s rainout, but that too got rained out. It will not be rescheduled.

Box score

High-A: Jersey Shore BlueClaws (PHI) 9, Aberdeen IronBirds 8

This game was a real slobberknocker, with tons of offense on both sides. The IronBirds broke out to a 4-0 lead before Jersey Shore tied it, then Aberdeen went ahead again, 7-4, only for the BlueClaws to score five times in their last two innings.

It was a singles parade for the IronBirds, who racked up 11 hits but just one for extra bases. Aberdeen’s offensive star was shortstop Griff O’Ferrall, the Orioles’ second pick in last year’s draft, who was a perfect 4-for-4 with a walk. He drove in three runs, scored two, and stole a base for good measure. Each of the first five batters in the lineup had at least one hit and RBI.

As you might imagine, it was not as much of a banner day for Aberdeen’s pitching staff. Starter Trey Gibson gave up four runs (two earned) in four innings before Zane Barnhart had a disastrous relief outing, coughing up five runs in 1.1 frames.

Box score

Low-A: Myrtle Beach Pelicans (CHC) 3, Delmarva Shorebirds 2

Two guys split the pitching duties for the Shorebirds, with starter Chase Allsup and reliever Eccel Correa each working four innings (there was no bottom of the ninth). Each gave up just one earned run, with Allsup striking out six and Correa four. Those efforts weren’t quite enough on a night when Delmarva’s offense couldn’t make anything happen.

Shorebirds hitters showed a lot of patience — nine walks — but little ability to make decent contact, as the Pelicans took a no-hitter into the eighth inning. Alfredo Velásquez broke it up with a single, and Braylin Tavera added one later in the inning to drive him in, accounting for Delmarva’s only two hits of the game.

Box score

Bonus note: Enrique Bradfield Jr. played his third rehab game with the FCL Orioles and was 1-for-4.

Sunday’s scheduled games:

Norfolk: at Nashville, 3:05 PM.
