Despite having multiple injuries to their frontline starters, the\u00a0Chicago Cubs<\/a> are off to an impressive 22-17 record, and they sit in first place in the\u00a0National League Central.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

Lefty starter\u00a0Justin Steele<\/a> is lost for the season, and Shota Imanaga, who is off to a 3-2 start in 2025 with a 2.82 ERA and 34 strikeouts, was just sent to the Injured List.<\/p>\n

The Cubs’ starting rotation is now filled with either young starters who don’t have much big league experience, or veterans who aren’t true aces.<\/p>\n

This has led to some murmurs about Chicago looking to trade for a frontline starter. The Cubs may be able to hold their own in the NL Central, but if they want to be a true competitor, they will need to add to their staff somehow.<\/p>\n

In this trade pitch, the Cubs would acquire starter Tyler Anderson from the Los Angeles Angels in return for reliever Julian Merryweather and a top prospect in Kevin Alc\u00e1ntara.<\/p>\n

Anderson is a two-time All-Star and appears to be in the prime of his career. He was a late bloomer, but the 35-year-old would be a great fill-in piece to help stabilize the Cubs’ rotation. The Angels had a solid start to 2025, but things have evened out, and they may not compete this season.<\/p>\n

This trade provides a great opportunity for the Angels to get a solid prospect in Alc\u00e1ntara, who could be called up this season and get real reps.<\/p>\n

As for Chicago, they already have a full outfield, and there might not be room for Alc\u00e1ntara in the next couple of years.<\/p>\n
