NEW YORK \u2014 Pete Alonso is out of the Mets’ starting lineup for the first time in 2025.<\/p>\n
After starting in each of the Mets’ first 99 games, Alonso is dealing with a right hand contusion and was absent for the start of Sunday’s series finale against the Reds at 1:40 p.m. at Citi Field.<\/p>\n

Carlos Mendoza said that X-rays on Alonso’s hand came back negative. The Mets first baseman said he was feeling better and could potentially be considered to come off the bench.<\/p>\n
Alonso, who is considered day-to-day, did not miss a game throughout the 2024 season.<\/p>\n
Mark Vientos is making his 10th career start at first base and batting cleanup in Alonso’s place.<\/p>\n
The Mets have one last chance to avoid the ultimate stumble out of the All-Star break.<\/p>\n
After dropping the opening two games of their series with the Reds, the Mets have the chance to mitigate a sweep at 1:40 p.m. on Sunday at Citi Field.<\/p>\n

The finale will be a duel of All-Star starters.<\/p>\n
David Peterson will be on the mound for the Mets. The left-hander has been their most consistent starter this season, posting a 6-4 record with a 3.06 ERA through 18 starts to secure his first All-Star appearance this week.<\/p>\n
Peterson threw a scoreless fourth inning in the Midsummer Classic.<\/p>\n
On the other side, Andrew Abbott has filled the role as Reds ace. The lefty is 8-1 with a 2.07 ERA and 1.08 WHIP.<\/p>\n
