The B-CU Wildcats; softball team shut out top-seeded Prairie View A&M 3-0 in the opening game for both teams in the 2025 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Softball Tournament at Gulfport Sportsplex in Gulf- port, Mississippi.<\/p>\n

Bethune-Cookman University opened the\u00a0SWAC\u00a0softball\u00a0tournament\u00a0by taking down\u00a0Prairie View A&M\u00a03-0\u00a0in\u00a0Gulfport, Mississippi\u00a0on Tuesday\u00a0night, May 6.<\/p>\n
Alyssa Lopez pitched six and two thirds scoreless innings for the Wildcats.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Shania Owens went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Kendall McCauley was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Molly Blackwood added two hits and Haylen Gonzalez picked up the save for B-CU.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Wildcats advanced to the winner\u2019s\u00a0bracket to face Jackson State, the second seed from the East Division on Wednesday night, after the Daytona Times\u2019 deadline.\u00a0<\/p>\n
B-CU\u00a0 (22-29 overall) is the fourth seed from the SWAC East Division while Prairie View (27-20) is the top seed from the\u00a0SWAC\u00a0West\u00a0Division.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The SWAC tournament is a double elimination tournament, which runs\u00a0 through Friday, May 9. The winner of the tournament advances to the NCAA tournament.\u00a0<\/p>\n
