Matt Waldron<\/a> \u2013 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 4 K (85 pitches \u2013 50 strikes)<\/p>\n

El Paso rode a strong start from Matt Waldron to a 5-2 win over the Space Cowboys. Waldron allowed two homers in his start, accounting for all runs he allowed. Waldron\u2019s knuckleball was dancing, generating nine whiffs and a 26.4% chase rate. The right-hander has a 3.79 ERA in Triple-A this season. Omar Cruz<\/a> struck out four batters in two innings of relief, getting whiffs on 43.8% of swings against. Raul Brito<\/a> struck out two to close out the win with a two-inning save.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cody Roberts had two hits, with his third-inning home run tying the game. Nate Mondou<\/a> later hit an RBI single to give the Chihuahuas a 3-2 lead that would only grow. Roberts\u2019 RBI single in the sixth inning would score Mason McCoy<\/a> to add on another run, and Yonathan Perlaza grounded a middle-middle fastball up the middle for an RBI double three batters later. Brandon Lockridge<\/a> and Mason McCoy finished with two base hits, and Tim Locastro<\/a> had a double and a run scored in the win.\u00a0<\/p>\n

San Antonio Missions (Lost 5-0 vs Midland) (50-42 on the season)<\/p>\n

Jared Kollar<\/a> \u2013 3 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 5 K (60 pitches \u2013 32 strikes)<\/p>\n

The Missions were shut out on Wednesday, only tallying five hits in the loss. Devin Ortiz had two singles in the game, reaching base three times. Addison Kopack\u2019s leadoff double in the eighth inning accounted for the team\u2019s only extra-base hit in the game. Wyatt Hoffman<\/a> and Ripken Reyes<\/a> each singled in the loss, accounting for the team\u2019s remaining hits.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jared Kollar started for the Missions, tossing three innings in what was planned to be a short start. The former Seton Hill and Rutgers right-hander struck out five batters in the start, matching his season high. Jose Geraldo<\/a> surrendered three runs in two innings of his own, striking out three. Stephen Jones<\/a> struck out three in two scoreless innings, scattering two hits. Tyson Neighbors<\/a> struck out three in two innings of his own and has not allowed a run in July.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Braedon Karpathios<\/a> \u2013 2-for-4, Two-RBI Single<\/p>\n

Clark Candiotti<\/a> \u2013 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K (14 pitches \u2013 9 strikes)<\/p>\n

Right-hander Clark Candiotti made his return from the injured list on Wednesday, tossing one scoreless inning with a strikeout. Candiotti missed three weeks due to injury, and looks to be stretched out gradually over the course of his next few starts. Sam Whiting<\/a> threw three innings of scoreless baseball in relief, striking out one. Sean Barnett<\/a> struggled on the mound, facing four batters and recording no outs. Barnett was charged with two runs, and Fernando Sanchez<\/a> came on to extinguish the threat, ultimately throwing three innings of scoreless ball. Nick Wissman<\/a> came on in the eighth inning and allowed one run. He went back out for the ninth inning but allowed three hits, including the walk-off winner.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At the dish, Leo De Vries was one of two TinCaps with a multi-hit game. De Vries drove in a run in the seventh inning on an RBI single, later doubling in the ninth. Braedon Karpathios continues to find his smooth stroke at the plate, finishing with a two-RBI single as part of a two-hit showing. Since July 11, Karpathios is hitting .468 with a .540 OBP, so he isn\u2019t sacrificing the on-base for more contact. Ryan Jackson<\/a> had a triple that scored a run, finishing 1-for-4. Jack Costello<\/a> and Kai Roberts<\/a> both reached base twice in the ballgame, with Roberts scoring two runs from the leadoff spot.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 6-4 vs Stockton) (42-50 on the season)<\/p>\n

Lamar King<\/a> Jr \u2013 3-for-5, Three Singles, Two Runs Scored<\/p>\n

Zach Evans<\/a> \u2013 2-for-5, RBI Single, Run Scored<\/p>\n

Kash Mayfield<\/a> \u2013 2.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R (1 ER), 2 BB, 4 K (52 pitches \u2013 35 strikes)<\/p>\n

The Storm rode a barrage of singles to win 6-4 against the Ports. Kash Mayfield started for the Storm, and struck out four in 2.1 innings. Mayfield was on a pitch count, and departed with one runner left on base. Mayfield has now struck out 34.5% of batters faced this season. Bernard Jose<\/a> allowed a three-run homer in the third, but went on to strike out six batters in 2.2 innings of work. Vicarte Domingo was simply dominant, tossing three scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Domingo has punched out 32.3% of batters this season, with his high-ride fastball allowing him to generate whiffs up in the zone. Adam Conrad<\/a> earned his first save since May 11 with a scoreless ninth.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Storm scored three in the first inning to chase Ports starter Nathan Dettmer<\/a>. Kavares Tears<\/a> singled to score the first run of the game, and Kale Fountain<\/a> poured it on with an RBI single of his own. Carlos Rodriguez<\/a> reached on an error to score the third run of the inning. Cobb Hightower<\/a> would tie the game in the fourth inning on an RBI groundout, and Zach Evans gave Lake Elsinore the lead with an RBI single to score Kasen Wells<\/a>. Carlos Rodriguez extended the lead with an RBI single in the seventh inning. Lamar King Jr had three singles in the win, and Kasen Wells went back to stealing bases, swiping his 24th and 25th of the season.\u00a0<\/p>\n
