Rangers Announcer Blasts \u2018Itinerant\u2019 Athletics Amid Controversial Relocation<\/a> originally appeared on Athlon Sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Both Major League Baseball and the club previously known as the Oakland Athletics envision that, at some point within the coming years, the A\u2019s will officially play in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

For now, the A\u2019s are stuck in Sacramento, and Texas Rangers announcer Dave Raymond isn\u2019t too pleased.<\/p>\n

The A\u2019s have come under fire all season for playing their home games at Sutter Health Park, a minor league stadium which seats just over 14,000 people. A\u2019s pitcher Luis Severino all but publicly requested a trade after only three months pitching in Sacramento \u2014 and, by the way, don\u2019t bother calling them the Sacramento Athletics. The A\u2019s have controversially stayed away from any and all references to Sacramento in their branding.<\/p>\n

For all intents and purposes, the Athletics are a team without a country. Raymond noted as much during this week, accidentally referencing Oakland during Monday\u2019s and Tuesday\u2019s broadcasts.<\/p>\n

Raymond went one step further, calling them the<\/a> \u201cWandering Athletics\u201d on Monday and the \u201cItinerant Athletics\u201d last night. For the unfamiliar, \u201citinerant\u201d means traveling from place to place. For example, Kansas City Royals veteran Rich Hill is an itinerant pitcher, seeing as he\u2019s pitched for a record 14 teams.<\/p>\n

Raymond\u2019s comments come only months after slamming A\u2019s management in April, questioning why the Athletics refused to adopt \u201cSacramento\u201d in their name temporarily.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re not good enough for us, but we\u2019ll let you house us for a couple of years,\u201d Raymond said then. \u201cBut we\u2019re not going to use your name. What?<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy can\u2019t they just be the Sacramento A\u2019s for a couple of years?\u201d Raymond continued<\/a>. \u201cWhat does that hurt? It\u2019s just dismissive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unfortunately for Raymond, it may be a bit before he calls an Athletics game in Las Vegas. Although the A\u2019s new stadium is proposed to open in 2028, there is no official timetable as of publication.<\/p>\n
