The San Francisco Giants<\/a> finally broke their losing streak<\/a> on Friday and now, less than a week after getting swept at home by them, the Giants will try to earn a series victory over the New York Mets<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s an exciting game for the Giants, as righty Kai-Wei Teng gets the starting nod. Teng, who pitched 11 innings in his debut season last year, but was designated for assignment in the offseason, will be making his season debut after having his contract purchased<\/a> on Friday. This will be his first career start in the Majors.<\/p>\n

After a brutal 2024, both in the Majors and Minors, Teng has rebounded brilliantly this year, sporting a 3.67 ERA, a 2.94 FIP, and 86 strikeouts against 21 walks in 54 innings for AAA Sacramento. Out of the 90 pitchers in the Pacific Coast League who have thrown at least 40 innings this year, Teng ranks 10th in ERA, second in FIP, first in strikeouts per nine innings, and 32nd in walks per nine innings. He spent the first part of the year in the bullpen, but in four AAA starts this year has pitched 19.2 innings and allowed just seven hits, seven walks, and one earned run, while striking out 35 batters. He is presumably competing with Carson Whisenhunt \u2014 who will start on Sunday \u2014 to stay in the rotation when Landen Roupp returns from injury.<\/p>\n

On the other side is righty Kodai Senga, who makes his 17th start of the year. It\u2019s been a brilliant season for the 2023 All-Star after he lost nearly all of 2024 due to injury, as he\u2019s gone 7-3 with a 2.00 ERA, a 3.72 FIP, and 82 strikeouts against 41 walks in 85.2 innings. His last start game against the Giants, when he gave up three runs in five innings.<\/p>\n
