ST. MICHAEL \u2014 Alexandria Zimny Insurance Post 87 got off to a hot start in Saturday\u2019s Minnesota American Legion State Tournament game against Shakopee as a Griffin Wimmer RBI single in the top of the first inning, and a Zach Iverson RBI single in the top of the second inning gave it a 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n

But all it took was one inning to change the tide of the game. Shakopee scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 7-3 lead.<\/p>\n

Shakopee scored a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the lead to seal a 9-4 win and advance to the American Legion state semifinals.<\/p>\n

Nolan Johnson and Landon Gess-Norling had RBI hits for Alexandria in the loss on Aug. 1, 2025.<\/p>\n

Alexandria went 2-2 in its first legion state tournament appearance since 2018, having beaten White Bear Lake 2-1 on Thursday, losing to Grand Rapids 2-0 on Friday, then beating Hutchinson 9-3 later that night.<\/p>\n

Post 87 finishes the summer with a 28-10 record.<\/p>\n

This season built a lot of momentum for the next school year, as all but one of their players (Sam Anderson, who will play college baseball at North Dakota State), is not a graduating senior.<\/p>\n
